Jammu Meeting Aims to Combat Narcotics in J&K and Ladakh

A quarterly UT-level Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) meeting for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh was held in a hybrid format at the BSF Frontier Headquarters in Jammu to strengthen coordination between agencies in the areas of narcotics intelligence and enforcement.

The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Director General of the Narcotics Control Bureau (North-West Region), Monika Ashish Batra, and attended by senior officers from the Border Security Force (BSF), Enforcement Directorate (ED), Income Tax Department, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) J&K, Drug Controller of J&K, Anti-Narcotics Task Forces (ANTFs), and Excise Departments.

Key discussions during the meeting focused on emerging challenges such as drug drops using drones and their links with networks in Punjab. The agencies also discussed identifying the top 10 drug syndicates operating in the region, mapping hawala operators, and pinpointing hotspots and networks involved in narcotics trafficking.

Participants reviewed districts with comparatively low drug seizures to identify enforcement gaps and discussed scrutinizing suspicious financial transactions linked to narcotics offenders. The current drug situation in Ladakh was also analyzed to strengthen preventive and enforcement strategies.

The meeting emphasized the need for enhanced coordination, intelligence sharing, and a multi-agency approach to effectively combat drug trafficking in the Union Territories.
