JAMMU, APRIL 06: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), under Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav, is installing wire mesh over major drains to prevent garbage dumping, improve wastewater flow, and reduce waterlogging.
This initiative addresses sanitation challenges caused by residents disposing of waste into open drains. JMC also runs awareness campaigns promoting responsible waste disposal and discouraging the use of polythene, open defecation, and the dumping of construction and demolition waste.
Between April 2025 and March 2026, the Health and Sanitation Wing collected ₹14.39 lakh in fines from violators, including ₹3.58 lakh for polythene use, ₹8.57 lakh for construction and demolition waste, and ₹2.23 lakh for general littering. Over 3,000 challans have been referred to courts for further action.
JMC urged residents to actively participate in maintaining a cleaner and sustainable city.
