Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat: Infrastructure and Timeline Updates

Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat: Infrastructure and Timeline Updates.webp

The Jammu division of Northern Railway is in the final stages of preparations to introduce the Vande Bharat Express between Jammu and Srinagar.

Amid growing public anticipation, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal stated that efforts are underway to commence the semi-high-speed service before the upcoming holiday season. He described the proposed train service as highly significant for the region, citing strong public interest and enthusiasm.

Singhal informed that certain bridges on the route had developed technical issues following heavy rainfall last year. However, repair and strengthening works have been completed, and train movement over these structures has resumed smoothly. He added that since the Jammu–Srinagar stretch operates on a single-line track, careful operational planning is required, and this is being actively undertaken by the division.

Meanwhile, construction of the new terminal building and platform expansion at Jammu Tawi railway station is progressing at a rapid pace. The project, being developed at a cost of several hundred crores, is expected to be completed within this year.

Notably, commercial services of the Vande Bharat Express between Katra and Srinagar began on June 7, 2025. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the service a day earlier, marking the full connectivity of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL).
