
Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the passage of the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill 2026 in Parliament will significantly boost ease of living and ease of doing business in the country.
In a social media post, the Prime Minister said that the Bill strengthens a trust-based framework that empowers citizens and removes outdated rules and regulations. PM Modi also noted that it will ensure the speedy disposal of cases and reduce the burden of litigation through decriminalization. He added that the consultative approach adopted in drafting the Bill is noteworthy, and he commended all those who contributed their insights and supported its passage in Parliament.
The Parliament passed the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, with the Rajya Sabha approving it yesterday. The Lok Sabha had passed the Bill on Wednesday. The legislation amends certain enactments to decriminalize and rationalize offenses in order to further enhance trust-based governance for ease of living and doing business.
The bill will decriminalize minor offenses and implement measures such as revising fines and penalties proportionate to the offense. It proposes to amend 79 Central Acts administered by 23 Ministries. A total of 784 provisions are being proposed to be amended, of which 717 provisions are being decriminalized to foster ease of doing business, and 67 provisions are being proposed to facilitate ease of living.
