Mangaluru (Karnataka), April 2 Jazeera Airways, based in Kuwait, will operate special bi-weekly charter flights between Kuwait and Mangaluru via Dammam, starting April 8, according to officials.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted permission for these limited charter operations, which will run twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

According to officials, passengers travelling from Kuwait will first be transported by road to Dammam in Saudi Arabia, a journey of approximately six hours.

The route will include a stop at the Kuwait-Saudi border for mandatory immigration and security checks before proceeding to Dammam airport for onward travel to Mangaluru.

The same procedure will be followed on the return journey, with passengers travelling by road from Dammam to Kuwait after completing border formalities, officials added.

According to sources, flight J9 3417 will depart from Kuwait at 8:40 am (local time) and arrive in Mangaluru at 4:10 pm IST. The return flight, J9 3418, will depart from Mangaluru at 4:55 pm IST and arrive in Kuwait at 7:40 pm (local time).

The airline had previously operated similar charter services to Mangaluru during the Covid-19 pandemic to facilitate passenger movement amidst restrictions.

Sources said the airline is also exploring the possibility of increasing the frequency of these services from two to four flights per week, subject to regulatory approvals.
