Ranchi/Medininagr, April 8 Two people were killed in separate family disputes in Ranchi and Palamu districts of Jharkhand, police said on Wednesday.

In Ranchi, an elderly man was allegedly hacked to death by his son early Wednesday morning after he refused to give him money, a police official said.

The incident took place at Haratand, within the Airport police station limits, around 2 am.

The accused, Kamal Sahu (32), has been arrested, while his deceased father has been identified as Govind Sahu (60), he said.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had demanded Rs 2 lakh from his father. When he refused, an argument ensued, which quickly escalated into violence. In a fit of rage, Kamal picked up a spade and struck his father multiple times on the head, causing his death," said Airport police station OC Pankaj Sharma.

Police have recovered the murder weapon, he said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination at RIMS, and the accused has been sent to judicial custody after an FIR was lodged in this regard, police said.

In Palamu district, police arrested Sintu Bhuiyan (19) for hacking to death his 35-year-old brother Pintu in Thekhi village within the Panki police station limits.

The incident occurred on Monday after an altercation between them. Both were intoxicated at the time of the incident. The deceased's wife has lodged an FIR in this regard.

"The accused has confessed to the crime, and the axe he used for the murder has been recovered. He has been sent to judicial custody," said Panki OC Rajesh Kumar.
