Ranchi, March 31 Jharkhand Congress in-charge K Raju said on Tuesday that the party would launch a movement against displacement in the state.
Accusing mining companies of recklessly acquiring land, he alleged that they were putting people in trouble by displacing them from their lands without providing proper compensation.
"The party has decided to launch a movement against mining lobbies and the administration. The district administration is responsible for implementing the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement Act, 2013. However, we have seen violations of the Act in many places in Jharkhand," Raju claimed, while addressing the media here in Ranchi.
He said that hundreds of farmers in the Barkagaon constituency in Hazaribag have not received compensation for their land for many years.
"Even land acquired under the Coal Bearing Act is eligible for compensation. We have found that the local administration has disregarded the rules of the Indian government to benefit mining lobbies," he alleged.
He said that various issues were discussed during the 10-day training camp for newly elected district presidents in Jharkhand at the West Singhbhum district, which was concluding on Tuesday.
Raju also said that they made several decisions during the event, including raising awareness about the rights provided under the Panchayat Extension of Scheduled Areas (PESA) Act.
The PESA rules, which aim to empower tribal communities in scheduled areas to exercise self-governance, were notified by the Jharkhand government in January.
There are approximately 2,000 villages in Jharkhand that fall under PESA. The party has decided to launch a program to make people aware of PESA rules.
"Our leader Rahul Gandhi has also promised to visit Jharkhand and interact with traditional Gram Sabha leaders on PESA rules," Raju said.
Jharkhand Congress President Keshav Mahato Kamlesh and other senior leaders were also present during the press conference.
