Ramgarh, April 10 Fourteen transgender individuals were awarded beautician certificates on Friday by the Ramgarh district administration of Jharkhand, officials said.

The 14 transgender people attended a two-week beautician course organized by the district administration, they said.

"A total of 14 people from the transgender community were awarded beautician certificates on Friday during a programme at the district collectorate after they successfully completed the beautician course at a training center in Bhurkunda from March 16 to April 2," said Ramgarh Deputy Commissioner (DC) Faiz Aq Ahmed Mumtaz.

"This is the first time in the state that people from the transgender community have become trained beauticians," the DC claimed.

The district administration is continuously working to empower the transgender community. Earlier, the administration had built transgender toilets in public places and set up cafes in various locations, which are being operated by them, he said.

Himansi Kinnar, who received the certificate, praised the initiatives of the district administration and said that now the third gender community will open beauty parlours and earn a better livelihood.
