Hazaribag (Jharkhand), March 25 A 12-year-old girl was abducted and murdered by unidentified individuals using stones in Hazaribag district, Jharkhand, on Wednesday, police said.

The incident occurred in the Bishnugarh police station area, with her family alleging that she was raped and murdered.

Villagers spotted her body near a school this morning and alerted the police. She had been missing since Tuesday evening, when she was last seen participating in a 'Mangla Julus' procession, which precedes Ram Navami.

"Preliminary investigation suggests that she was abducted and then murdered using stones. Her face and genital area were targeted. A forensic team visited the crime scene and collected evidence," Bishnugarh police station officer-in-charge Swapan Kumar Mahatha said, adding that no arrests have been made so far.

Bishnugarh Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Baijnath Prasad said that the girl's parents alleged that she was raped and murdered.

Police are investigating all angles, he said, adding that the body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
