Jharkhand Tragedy: Three Family Members Lost in Landslide.webp

Dhanbad (Jharkhand), April 1 The bodies of all three members of the family were found under the debris on Wednesday, a day after their house collapsed due to land subsidence in Dhanbad district, Jharkhand, a police officer said.

Two houses had collapsed in Tandabadi Basti under the Sonardih police station limits on Tuesday evening, he said.

Three people were inside one of the houses when the incident occurred, while no one was in the other.

Baghmara sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Purushottam Singh said, "All three bodies were trapped under the debris. They were retrieved during a rescue operation and sent for postmortem examination."

The deceased family members were a 70-year-old man, a woman (35), and a girl (17). However, their relationship is yet to be confirmed.

Baghmara MLA Shatrughan Mahto, who visited the place on Tuesday evening, had claimed that at least four houses collapsed due to the land subsidence.

He alleged that illegal mining is rampant in the area, which could be a reason for the incident.

Dhanbad Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar, however, said that the land subsidence was suspected to have occurred due to rain, and there was no illegal mining in the area.
