JKBOCWWB Overhaul: Deputy CM Calls for Comprehensive Reform.webp

JAMMU, February 17: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary held a high-level review meeting at the Civil Secretariat in Jammu on Monday, and called for a comprehensive overhaul of the Jammu and Kashmir Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (JKBOCWWB) to expand and strengthen welfare benefits for construction workers across the Union Territory.

He emphasized the need for structural and procedural reforms to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability, while simplifying application processes and widening outreach to ensure that no eligible worker is left out.

The Deputy CM reviewed the implementation of the four Labour Codes – the Code on Wages, the Industrial Relations Code, the Social Security Code, and the Occupational Safety, Health, and Working Conditions Code – and directed transparent and effective enforcement.

He also called for intensified IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) campaigns to raise awareness among workers about their rights and benefits, and emphasized digital learning and skill development support for workers' children, including the provision of tablets and laptops.

Reaffirming the government's commitment to the socio-economic upliftment of workers and other marginalized sections, he directed officials to ensure prompt grievance redressal and maximum coverage under welfare schemes.
