Mumbai, January 26 The country's premier container port, Jawaharlal Nehru Port, announced on Thursday that its overall cargo traffic reached a record 100 million metric tons in the current financial year, in addition to container traffic exceeding 8 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) in FY26.

In another development, the facility announced the commencement of the JJS service by Global Feeder Shipping at PSA Mumbai, one of the container terminals at JNPA, with the inaugural call of MV SSF Dynamic on March 24.

"The record performance of crossing the 8 million TEUs benchmark, along with achieving 100 MMT overall throughput, reflects the resilience, efficiency, and dedication of all stakeholders, including terminal operators, and our workforce," said Gaurav Dayal, Chairman at JNPA.

JNPA remains committed to further strengthening its infrastructure, enhancing ease of doing business, and contributing to India's vision of becoming a global maritime hub, he added.

The port operator said that its traffic profile continues to be largely gateway-driven, reflecting its core role in handling the nation's gateway cargo, while transhipment volumes are gradually increasing.

JNPA continues to undertake strategic infrastructure development and digital transformation initiatives to cater to growing trade demands and strengthen its global competitiveness, it said.

Regarding the launch of the JJS service, JNPA said that the newly introduced service features a comprehensive port rotation: Mundra ' Nhava Sheva ' Jeddah ' King Abdullah ' Sokhna ' Aqaba ' King Abdullah ' Jeddah ' Mundra, strengthening maritime connectivity between India and key ports across the Middle East region.

The introduction of the JJS service is expected to enhance service reliability and provide greater stability to trade flows, particularly in the context of the evolving situation in the Middle East, it said, adding that the service will support Indian exporters and importers by ensuring continued access to critical markets and improving supply chain resilience.
