Joburg Open: Du Plessis Takes Lead, Sharma Holds Steady.webp

Johannesburg, March 8 India's Shubhankar Sharma had a steady third round and finished tied 54th at the Joburg Open 2026 here, narrowly making the cut.

Sharma carded a 1-under 69 in the third round.

The third day saw several players making up for lost time due to play being suspended on the second day due to lightning. Local player Hennie Du Plessis moved up to take the lead after playing 27 holes in a single day.

Du Plessis had carded a 2-under 68 in the second round, but a strong third round where he matched the lowest round of the week with an 8-under 62 saw him take a two-stroke lead over his closest rivals with just one round remaining.

His total now stands at 14 under par.

In the third round, Sharma started with a bogey on the third hole, which he recovered from a birdie on the fifth hole.

A birdie on the 18th hole saw the 29-year-old post a par score for the round. Sharma has a total score of 3-under par heading into the final day.

Brandon Robinson Thompson was unable to maintain his form from the second day when he shot a 62, as he played an even par round of 70 and is now tied for second place with a score of 12 under par after three rounds.
