Ahmedabad, March 27 Gujarat Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani posted on social media on Friday, detailing allegations of torture made by a journalist against a senior police officer in Rajkot, who, however, dismissed them as "drama" to prevent an investigation into an extortion attempt.
In his post on X, Mevani said journalist Suresh Vadaicha had told him that DCP Jagdish Bangarwa of the Rajkot Crime Branch had broken his leg and poured petrol into his rectum.
"The DCP from Rajkot poured petrol into my anus – this is the complaint of journalist Suresh Vadaicha from the city of Rajkot in Gujarat! Yesterday, he told me that "Without any FIR, DCP Jagdish Bangarwa of the Rajkot Crime Branch broke my leg and filled my anus with petrol twice," Mevani's post read.
Mevani also posted a video showing Vadaicha lying in a hospital bed. Vadaicha claimed that the police were upset with him because his exposé had forced them to stop the extortion.
When contacted, DCP Bangarwa said that the man was making these accusations to ensure that there was no investigation into an application accusing him of extortion.
"This is his personal problem. An application against this man is pending with the police. He is doing all this drama so that there is no police investigation against him. A criminal complaint is pending showing him as an accused," the DCP said.
The DCP also said that MLA Mevani was raising this issue because he had a "personal issue" against him.
