Chennai, March 13 Kaliammal Prakasan, the former coordinator of Naam Tamilar Katchi's State women's wing, met with AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami here on Friday and formally joined the party.
Kaliammal Prakasan, a prominent figure in Naam Tamilar Katchi, led by actor-director Seeman, had quit about a year ago and met with the Leader of the Opposition at his residence here.
During the meeting, AIADMK party organization secretary and Nagapattinam district secretary O S Manian, and former MLA S Pavunraj were present, according to an AIADMK press release.
Later, speaking to reporters, she explained her decision to join AIADMK, stating that Palaniswami comes from a simple family and there is a democratic environment in AIADMK where someone from a humble background can rise to a leadership position.
"After leaving Naam Tamilar Katchi, I had a question in my mind. If I don't join another political organization, how can I ensure political participation for the people whose rights are being denied, and that too, they are from my own community?" she said when joining AIADMK.
