Kannauj (UP), March 27 A day after Uttar Pradesh minister Asim Arun raised concerns about mismanagement and delays at a government event in Kannauj, BJP workers staged a protest on Friday, chanting slogans against district officials and briefly disrupting traffic.
In a letter to District Magistrate Ashutosh Mohan Agnihotri, the minister of state (independent charge) for social welfare expressed "deep regret" over the arrangements at a program held at Roma Memorial on Thursday to mark nine years of the government.
"I was invited as the chief guest at 5:30 pm and arrived at the venue on time, as a disciplined citizen. However, the experience was completely contrary to etiquette and punctuality," Arun wrote.
He noted that the main organizer, SDM Sadar Vaishali, arrived 15 minutes after him, followed later by the ADM.
"I waited for about 45 minutes for the program to begin. Announcements continued that it would start after your arrival, but no one knew when you would arrive. I had no option but to leave," the letter stated.
Emphasizing the importance of discipline, Arun, a former IPS officer and police commissioner, said public servants should draw inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who are known for punctuality.
"Discipline is the foundation of administration, and I expect the same time-bound conduct from my team," he added.
Following the letter, BJP workers gathered at Makrand Nagar Tiraha on Friday and protested against the administration, chanting slogans against the DM and the SP. Some protesters staged a brief road blockade.
Police officials, including the circle officer (CO) and local station in-charge, along with the minister, reached the spot and pacified the protesters, restoring normal traffic after about an hour.
