New Delhi, March 19 A 45-year-old construction worker died while another was injured after they suffered an electric shock during construction work in southwest Delhi's Kapashera area on Thursday, police said.

The incident was reported around 2:30 pm, following which a police team rushed to the spot. By the time they arrived, the two injured men had already been taken to a nearby hospital in an ambulance, they said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were working on a construction project at a house in the area. One of the labourers, Jhulan (32), was on the first floor and he picked up a bamboo to pass it to his colleague, Rajkumar (45), who was also on the second floor.

Police said the bamboo accidentally came into contact with a high-voltage electric line, causing a powerful electric shock. Both men sustained serious injuries in the incident.

"Due to the impact of the electric current, Rajkumar fell to the first floor while Jhulan fell to the ground floor," a police officer said.

Both were rushed to the hospital, where Rajkumar was pronounced dead during treatment, police said. Jhulan, who is originally from Bihar and currently lives in Kapashera, is working as a mason and is currently receiving treatment.

A crime team inspected the scene and collected evidence. The body has been taken to a mortuary for an autopsy.

Police said a case will be registered under relevant sections of law.
