
Kathmandu, March 22 Restrictive orders were reimposed on Sunday in Kapilvastu district of southern Nepal, where a clash between two communities had turned violent.
As the situation remained tense, the District Administration Office in Kapilvastu reimposed the orders in parts of Maharajgunj Municipality within the district.
According to Janardan Gautam, Chief District Officer of Kapilvastu, the step was taken as per the decision of the district security committee.
The order restricts people from gathering, holding public meetings, rallies, and demonstrations in various parts of the municipality.
On Saturday morning, a group of Hindus celebrating the Navaratri festival were reciting bhajans in the Bargadwa area of Maharajgunj municipality when a group of Muslims celebrating Eid opposed them, saying the music was too loud, police said.
The friction led to a clash between the two groups, and as the clash turned violent, at least 20 people were injured, including security personnel. Police said that they used baton charges and tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, a meeting of representatives from various stakeholder groups, political parties, and civil society, organized by the District Administration Office in Kapilvastu, decided to help maintain calm and peace and work towards fostering communal harmony in the district, officials said.
