New Delhi/Bengaluru, March 18 The Karnataka government has sought early approval for irrigation projects worth Rs 3,052 crore under the Centre's flagship schemes, with the union government responding positively, State Minister N S Boseraju said on Wednesday.
The proposals, submitted under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) and the Repair, Renovation and Restoration (RRR) schemes, are currently pending at various stages with the Water Resource Ministry, he said in a statement after meetings in New Delhi.
"The state government has already committed its 40 per cent share of funding in the budget, while the remaining 60 per cent is expected from the Centre. We have requested early approvals to fast-track implementation, and the response from the union minister has been encouraging," Boseraju said.
During his visit, Boseraju submitted a memorandum to Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti V Somanna, seeking expedited clearances to push forward irrigation works across the state.
In a parallel development, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, along with Boseraju, also held discussions with Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu on key aviation infrastructure projects.
The talks centred on the proposed development of an airport at Raichur, seen as a major boost to economic activity in the Kalyana Karnataka region, and on reviving flight operations to Kalaburagi under the UDAN regional connectivity scheme, according to the minister.
The union minister assured a positive response, indicating that discussions would be initiated with airlines to facilitate the resumption of services to Kalaburagi, Raju said.
