Mangaluru (Karnataka), March 18 A 56-year-old man narrowly escaped death after he was allegedly hit by a car in an attempt to murder him following a land dispute here, police said on Wednesday.

The video footage of the incident that occurred on March 17 shows a white MUV driven by the accused, ramming the victim's two-wheeler from the rear.

The accused, identified as Mohammad Sharif, was arrested in connection with the incident, they said.

According to police, the victim, Mohan Das Shetty, a resident of Mallikatte, had a dispute with the accused and his father over land transactions in Surathkal and Vamanjoor involving around Rs 2 crore.

The incident occurred around 11 am on March 17 on Arya Samaj Road when the two confronted each other. During the altercation, the accused allegedly snatched the victim's mobile phone, a senior police officer said.

Police said that as the victim left the spot on his two-wheeler, Sharif chased him in a car and deliberately rammed the vehicle from behind in an attempt to kill him.

A case of attempted murder has been registered at Mangaluru East police station. The accused was later apprehended and produced before a court, police added.
