Chennai, March 10 – Addressing rumors that actor Suriya's upcoming film, "Karuppu," was set to release on April 10, the film's director, RJ Balaji, has released a video stating that they will provide an update on the matter within a week to 10 days.
RJ Balaji posted a video clip on his Instagram page, providing an update on the film. He said, "I know many of Suriya's fans are disappointed because of the long wait. I have also been working on this for almost two years. So, your wait will be worthwhile. We have no intention of delaying the release. Within a week to 10 days, we will inform you about the release date."
He then dismissed the rumors that the film would be released on April 10.
"It is definitely not on April 10. I want to let you know that now," he said, even as he continued driving.
Addressing the rumors in a lighthearted manner, the actor-director said that there were rumors of a conflict between him and the producer, between the producer and the music director, and even between the producer and himself. Laughing, he said, "I understand that you are all disappointed because of the long wait, but you will all enjoy the film when it is released. I will provide an update."
It may be recalled that the director, who had participated in a college event recently, had said, "Karuppu is ready for release. However, we do not want to create excessive hype, as we do not want fans to have unrealistic expectations when they come to watch the film and be disappointed if the film falls short of such expectations. The film is well-made and you will all enjoy it. We intend to release the film after the upcoming elections this summer. It is a film that you can enjoy with your entire family. Students can enjoy it with their parents."
The film has generated significant excitement since its makers released a teaser. The teaser was released on the occasion of Suriya's birthday last year.
The teaser begins with the deity of Karuppu being worshipped with chili powder, while a voice says, "It is not a calm deity that you worship with grace. If you pray with sincerity and offer chillies, it is a fierce deity that will deliver instant justice."
We then get introduced to Suriya's character in the film. We learn that he plays a lawyer named Saravanan, and that he also has another name – Karuppu.
The rest of the teaser shows that the film will be a proper commercial entertainer with a lot of action sequences. Suriya is also seen delivering several punch lines in the film. For example, Suriya says, "Blast! My brother, this is our time, I'm gonna give you all a whacking."
Actress Trisha plays the female lead in this film, which will also feature Malayalam actors Indrans, Sshivada, Swasika, and Tamil actors Yogi Babu and cinematographer and actor Natty in prominent roles.
The film has music by young music sensation Sai Abhyankkar, and cinematography by GK Vishnu, the same cinematographer who impressed with his work in films like Vijay's 'Bigil', 'Jawan', and 'Mersal'.
R Kalaivanan will be the editor of this film, with Vikram Mor choreographing the stunts and Arun Venjaramoodu as the art director.
