Chennai, March 19 – The makers of director R J Balaji's highly anticipated upcoming action thriller, "Karuppu," starring Suriya in the lead role, have now announced that the explosive action entertainer will be released on May 14 this year.
Director R J Balaji made the announcement on his social media accounts. He wrote, "#Karuppu - May 14, 2026. The blockbuster summer begins!!!"
It may be recalled that director R J Balaji had recently announced that they would be releasing an update on the film's release date shortly. Balaji had made this promise while dismissing rumors that "Karuppu" would be released on April 10 this year.
The film has generated immense excitement among fans and film enthusiasts. The excitement surrounding the film doubled after the makers released a teaser on the occasion of Suriya's birthday last year.
The teaser begins with the Karuppu deity being worshipped with chili powder, while a voice says, "It's not a gentle deity that you worship with grace. If you pray with sincerity and offer chilies, it's a fierce deity that will deliver instant justice."
We then get introduced to Suriya's character in the film. We learn that he plays a lawyer named Saravanan, and that he also has the name "Karuppu."
The rest of the teaser shows that the film will be a proper commercial entertainer with many action sequences. We also see Suriya delivering several punch lines in the film. For example, Suriya says, "Blast! My brother, this is our time, I'm going to give you all a beating."
Actress Trisha plays the female lead in this film, which will also feature Malayalam actors Indrans, Sshivada, Swasika, and Tamil actors Yogi Babu and cinematographer and actor Natty in important roles.
The film has music by the young music sensation Sai Abhyankkar, and cinematography by GK Vishnu, the same cinematographer who impressed with his work in films like Vijay's "Bigil," "Jawan," and "Mersal."
R Kalaivanan will be the editor of this film, with Vikram Mor choreographing the stunts and Arun Venjaramoodu as the art director.
