Kasganj (UP), April 9 Three people were killed and three others seriously injured when a tractor-trolley they were travelling in overturned here on Thursday evening, officials said.
The accident occurred in the Sikandarpur Vaishya police station area on the Nardauli-Bahora road of the district.
According to police, the victims, who are all relatives, were returning after attending the last rites of a female relative.
Eyewitnesses said the vehicle was moving at high speed when the trolley overturned, trapping several passengers underneath.
Three persons – Maharaj Singh (60), Mukesh (50), and Rajendra (35) – died on the spot, while Vinita (45), Sunita (35), and Bijendra (50) sustained serious injuries.
Passersby and locals rushed to the scene and helped rescue the injured, who were initially taken to the community health centre in Patiyali and later referred to the district hospital due to their critical condition.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Pradeep Kumar Vimal and Circle Officer Sandeep Verma, along with police personnel, also reached the spot to oversee the rescue efforts.
The bodies have been sent for a post-mortem examination, police said.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the incident and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family. He also directed district authorities to ensure proper treatment of the injured and expedite relief measures.
