Kashmir: Temporary Restrictions in Place for Friday Prayers and Security.webp

Srinagar, March 5: Authorities have eased restrictions in several parts of Srinagar city and elsewhere in the Valley, and life has quickly returned to normal in these areas, officials said.

Tensions have noticeably decreased throughout the Valley, even though authorities decided to continue restrictions on Friday, particularly in anticipation of large gatherings for congregational prayers, officials said on Thursday.

Top sources stated that while the average citizen is law-abiding and wants to continue with normal activities, restrictions will remain in place on Friday to prevent any disruption.

"These restrictions are purely precautionary in nature," top sources said.

Security forces will maintain vigilance across the Valley on Friday, with strict restrictions on movement in sensitive areas, and these restrictions may be relaxed after Friday prayers, sources added.

Authorities also stated that internet services will remain limited to 2G speeds across the Valley, while calls on prepaid mobile connections will continue to be suspended.

Officials said these measures are temporary and aimed at ensuring public safety and preventing the spread of misinformation or mobilization that could lead to the disruption of law and order.

All schools, colleges, and universities will remain closed until March 7.

All exams scheduled until March 7 have been postponed by the Central University of Kashmir and the Kashmir University.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met with religious, social, and business community members of the civil society in Srinagar on Wednesday.

The Chief Minister appealed to the people to ensure that during the period of mourning over recent developments in Iran, they do not take the law into their own hands.

"We should observe grief with discipline and dignity," Chief Minister Abdullah asked the members of the civil society.

There was a general consensus among the Chief Minister that maintaining sectarian harmony and remaining calm and peaceful is the need of the hour.
