Chennai, March 31 – The makers of director Rojin Thomas’s upcoming horror fantasy thriller ‘Kathanar’, starring Jayasurya, Prabhu Deva, and Anushka Shetty, released a fascinating trailer on Tuesday, much to the delight of fans and movie enthusiasts.
The 2 minutes and 49 seconds trailer showcases a series of stunning moments – breathtaking visuals, a captivating musical score, excellent sound design, and the strong screen presence of the lead actors, promising a fresh blend of fantasy in an ancient setting.
Director Rojin Thomas, known for his heartfelt film ‘Home’, is crafting an unforgettable cinematic experience. Co-writing the screenplay with R. Ramanand, he promises audiences an epic for the ages. With principal photography completed, the post-production team is working towards a worldwide release in up to 15 languages by 2026.
The trailer of ‘Kathanar’ has instantly captivated critics, trade experts, and fans, showcasing pre-release brilliance.
It is worth noting that the makers had revealed a glimpse of actor Jayasurya’s appearance in the film on the occasion of his birthday last August. Jayasurya plays the role of the powerful sorcerer, Kathanar, in the film. Anushka Shetty, the makers revealed, plays the character of Nila in the film.
‘Kathanar’, which was first announced in 2023, has generated significant interest among fans and movie enthusiasts for several reasons.
One of the reasons is that the makers claim the film will utilize technology never before seen in Indian cinema.
At the launch of the film, the makers posted a lengthy message on their official Instagram handle. The message read: "The ‘KATHANAR’ movie will bring technology never before used in Indian cinema. The pre-production work of ‘Kathanar’, a film using Virtual production technology aided by sophisticated workflows like Tech-Viz, Stunt-Viz & Post-Viz, has begun. Asset creation process like full body 3D scans using 200DSLR camera photogrammetry rig and Vicon based infrared biped motion capture have already been initiated."
The makers further stated, "Hollywood films ‘Jungle Book’ and ‘Lion King’ were the pioneers in using these technologies before ‘Kathanar’. Now, we are grateful to have an opportunity to bring these technologies used in international cinema to Malayalam cinema through ‘Kathanar’. ‘Kathanar’ will be a global cinema that will integrate the technocrats in our country. The preproduction & principal photography of ‘Kathanar’ will be completed in a year and will be released in seven languages."
