In Nepal, a clash broke out between police and UML supporters in Maitighar, near Baneshwor in Kathmandu, today. One protester was injured during the clash when UML supporters were staging protests against the arrest of party chairman and former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, and demanding his immediate release.
Following his oath-taking on Friday, Prime Minister Balendra Shah chaired his first Cabinet meeting, during which it was decided to implement the recommendations of a judicial commission investigating the Gen Z protests in Nepal last September. Following this decision, police arrested K.P. Sharma Oli from his residence in Bhaktapur yesterday morning. Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak was also taken into custody from his residence.
Police arrested both leaders after issuing urgent warrants. K.P. Sharma Oli was later admitted to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, where he is attending court hearings via video conferencing. Ramesh Lekhak is being held at a nearby police office.
