Following the arrest of UML party Chairman KP Sharma Oli, members of the CPN-UML have taken to the streets in Kathmandu Valley in protest. In response to the Chairman's arrest, mass organizations affiliated with the UML began demonstrations by burning tires in front of the District Court in Babar Mahal, Kathmandu. Several mass organizations of CPN-UML supporters jointly started a protest march from Maitighar Mandala. When the demonstrators attempted to move towards the restricted area, the police tried to stop them. During this exchange, there was a brief scuffle between the police and the demonstrators, and the situation became tense. Although the police dispersed the protesters, they are continuing to move forward in groups. After the procession, which started from Maitighar towards New Baneshwor, reached Babar Mahal, the members blocked traffic by burning tires on the road. Chanting slogans fiercely against the government, they are demanding the immediate release of their Chairman, Oli. A large number of security personnel have currently been deployed in the Babar Mahal and Maitighar areas.
