Los Angeles, March 23 "Saltburn" star Barry Keoghan says the online abuse he has received about his appearance has made him reluctant to go out in public, and he is concerned about how his son will react when he grows up and reads about it.
The actor, who has achieved stardom in recent years with his performances in "The Banshees of Inisherin", "Peaky Blinders", and "The Batman", spoke about the online hate he receives during an interview on SiriusXM's The Morning Mash Up.
"There's a lot of abuse about how I look, and it's kind of reached a point where… you know, everyone goes through that… but it's made me withdraw. It's made me really want to stay inside, not want to go out… I'm saying this with complete honesty. It's becoming a problem."
Keoghan deactivated his Instagram account in 2024, but removing himself from social media has not been particularly helpful.
"I'm still a curious person who wants to experience things," he said. "And if I attend an event or go somewhere, I want to see how it's received. And it's not always positive, you know?"
The actor said he is worried that all this hate coming his way will eventually impact his performance in movies.
"When that starts to affect your work, it becomes a problem because then you don't even want to be on screen anymore," he said.
The actor is also concerned about how his son, whom he welcomed with former girlfriend Alyson Sandro, will perceive the comments about his father.
"It's disappointing for the fans, but it's also disappointing that my little boy has to read all of this stuff when he gets older."
Keoghan is currently filming four Beatles biopics directed by Sam Mendes. He plays Ringo Starr in the films.
