In Kottayam, Kerala, March 23 Former MLA P.C. George, a prominent figure in the region, has announced his candidacy for the April 9 Kerala Assembly elections. George, who has a long-standing connection with the St. George community, has declared that he will be running as a candidate for the Poonjar Assembly constituency.

George, known for his strong stance on various issues, has also stated that he will be carrying a pistol and a gun with him during the elections, which has raised concerns about potential security risks.

The Poonjar constituency, which has been a stronghold of the Kerala Congress for years, is witnessing a fierce contest this time around.

George, who is now aligned with the BJP, is facing off against incumbent MLA Sebastian Kulanthunkal, a prominent figure in the Kerala Congress (M).

The election is also being closely watched by the Indian National Congress, which is fielding Saji Jacob as its candidate.

The SDPI (Social Democratic Party of India) is also contesting in the Erattupetta area, having won multiple wards in the recent local body elections.
