
Alappuzha (Kerala), April 5 A case has been registered against a Youth Congress activist for allegedly offering money for accurate predictions of the margin by which the UDF candidate from the Kayamkulam assembly seat would win in the April 9 elections, police said on Sunday.
An officer at the Kayamkulam police station said that a case was filed on Saturday based on a complaint received from Election Commission officials regarding a Facebook post by the Youth Congress activist.
The accused is alleged to have offered a cash prize of Rs 10,001 on Facebook for the most accurate prediction of the margin by which UDF candidate M Liju would win from the constituency, police said.
An FIR under section 192 (deliberately inciting riot with intent) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered against the accused, police said.
According to the FIR, the accused's Facebook post was deliberately made to incite people with the political motive of causing riots.
