
Thiruvananthapuram, March 26 The Kerala Assembly elections, scheduled for April 9, will see over 2.7 crore voters in the state choosing between 890 candidates from various political parties, according to figures released by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The ECI stated that out of the 2,125 nominations received, 890 candidates remain in the running after the scrutiny process and the withdrawal of candidacies by others on Thursday.
In the 2021 Assembly elections in the state, there were 957 candidates.
The constituency of Koduvally in Kozhikode district has the highest number of candidates – 13, according to the ECI figures.
The ECI also released data on the electorate, revealing that there are 2,71,42,952 voters in the state, including those living abroad, and they will cast their votes at 30,471 polling stations across Kerala. Of these, 1,38,84,001 are women and 1,30,16,593 are men. According to the ECI data, the 40-49 age group constitutes the largest segment of voters, with 56,32,036 individuals.
The figures also revealed that there are 273 voters who identify as a third gender, and 2,44,927 disabled voters in the state.
The data also showed that Malappuram district has the highest number of voters – 36,32,210, while Wayanad has the lowest – 6,43,625.
According to the data, there are also 53,984 service voters in the state.
