Kochi (Kerala), March 10 An event manager was arrested here for allegedly raping a woman after promising to marry her, police said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Ayoob, who runs an event management company here, was taken into custody on Sunday following a complaint lodged by the woman, Central Police here said.
His arrest was recorded on Sunday based on a case registered under BNS Section 64 (rape) and remanded by a court into judicial custody on Monday.
According to the police, the accused had befriended the woman several years ago and allegedly sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions under the pretext of marriage.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered and the accused was arrested after a preliminary investigation, police said, adding that further investigation into the case is underway.
