Thiruvananthapuram, March 14 Kerala Electricity Minister K Krishnankutty said on Saturday that there would be no power outages or load shedding, despite a rise in electricity consumption in the state.
Krishnankutty, speaking at a press conference here, said that there was no need for people to be concerned as measures have been taken to meet a peak demand of up to 600 megawatts.
He also said that short-term contracts for procuring an additional 300 megawatts of power and a long-term agreement to purchase 700 megawatts of electricity are in place, and that, if necessary, open market procurement will also be considered due to weather conditions or technical issues.
The minister said that electricity usage has increased significantly in recent days, partly due to households relying on induction cooktops following a shortage of LPG cylinders.
He urged consumers to regulate their electricity consumption as much as possible to ensure a stable power supply.
He also said that a high-level meeting will be convened soon to assess the increasing power demand and the measures to be taken to address it.
