
Today, the Handicrafts Department in Kishtwar organized a program to mark the successful completion of a six-month Karkhandar Unit in Knitting and Crochet Craft, run by Mrs. Kamla Devi, a resident of Matta.
During the event, the Assistant Director of Handicrafts, Kishtwar, distributed certificates of experience to the trainees as well as the instructor of the unit, recognizing their dedication and efforts during the training program.
The participants were also briefed about the formation of an Industrial Cooperative Society under the department's Financial Support Scheme. They were informed that financial assistance of Rs. 1 lakh, to be released in two equal installments of Rs. 50,000 each, is provided to the society for a period of two years to help artisans establish and run their units effectively.
The Assistant Director further highlighted the benefits of other departmental schemes, such as the Credit Card Scheme (CCS) and the Education Scholarship Scheme for the children of artisans and weavers. The trainees were encouraged to take advantage of these initiatives aimed at strengthening the handicrafts sector and improving the livelihoods of artisans.
Assistant Handicrafts Training Officer (AHTO), MTS, and other staff members of the department were also present at the event.
