Kolkata, April 2 – Kolkata Knight Riders' veteran off-spinner Sunil Narine has said that momentum remains the key factor in T20 cricket, adding that one has to be positive, courageous, and continue playing good cricket, as the franchise aims to get off to a strong start in the 2026 IPL points table.
Three-time champions KKR qualified for the clash after a six-wicket defeat to the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, despite scoring 220. "When you have the fans supporting you and the entire team, it gives you that extra edge. IPL is about timing, having senior players mentor the youngsters, and, of course, maintaining momentum.
"Momentum is everything in T20 cricket. You can gain it and lose it very quickly. So, you just need to be positive, be courageous, and continue playing good cricket," Narine said in a pre-game chat with the broadcasters, ahead of KKR facing Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens.
The match also marks KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane's 200th IPL appearance, making him the 11th player to achieve this feat. Narine added that younger players entering the league are better equipped than before to excel in the competition.
"Nowadays, players are playing a lot of T20 cricket. So, it's much easier than before. Players are keen, and they don't take anything for granted. They know how tough IPL is, so they always give their best," he said.
On his role in the team, Narine said he was ready to adapt to the team's requirements, especially with the bat. "I am someone who can adapt to whatever the team needs. Whether it's at the beginning or the end of the innings, I will do whatever is required," he added.
