Koderma District Mourns Woman’s Death by Elephant.webp

Koderma, March 29 A 55-year-old woman was killed by a wild elephant in Koderma district, Jharkhand, on Sunday, police said.

The incident occurred around 5 am when the woman, identified as Sita Devi, had gone to a forest near her residence in Jamu Harladih village, under the Markacho Police Station, to collect mahua flowers, a senior officer said.

"She was trampled to death by a wild elephant in the forest. Her body has been recovered and sent to the Koderma Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination," Nand Kishore Tiwari, the in-charge of the Markacho Police Station, said.

Ravindra Kumar, a Range Officer at the DFO office in Koderma, said that the deceased's family has already been provided with a compensation of Rs 25,000, while the remaining compensation will be given after the necessary formalities are completed.

The Jharkhand government provides a compensation of Rs 4 lakh in case of death due to an elephant attack.

Two people, including a woman, were killed by a wild elephant in Mariampur, under the Koderma Police Station, on Wednesday.
