
Koderma (Jharkhand), March 26 Two people, including a woman, were killed by a wild elephant in the Koderma district of Jharkhand, a forest officer said on Thursday.
The elephant trampled a woman, identified as Maniya Birhorni (55), to death in Mariampur, near the Koderma police station, on Wednesday evening. It also injured another woman, who is being treated at the Koderma Sadar Hospital, he said.
"The second incident occurred around 2 am on Thursday in the same area. A man, who was sleeping outside, was trampled to death by the same elephant," said Ram Babu, a forest officer for the Koderma range.
The deceased has been identified as Baleshwar Soren, a migrant labourer from the Deoghar district.
Koderma Circle Officer Ravi Bhusan said that the families of the victims have been provided with ₹25,000 each as immediate relief, while the remaining compensation will be given after completing some official formalities.
The Jharkhand government provides ₹4 lakh as compensation in cases where someone dies due to an elephant.
