
Kolkata, March 26 A thunderstorm hit the northern parts of Kolkata and the adjacent North 24 Parganas district on Thursday, with wind speeds reaching 57 kmph, disrupting flight operations at the NSCBI airport, the IMD said.
The IMD recorded 26 mm of rainfall at the airport, with the thunderstorm peaking at 4:50 pm.
As a precaution, flight operations were temporarily suspended, an airport official said.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's private plane, scheduled to land around that time, was unable to land for some time due to the storm.
It finally landed at 5:19 pm, the official added.
