Korba, March 18 Five people, including a woman and her nine-year-old granddaughter, were killed in two separate road accidents in the Korba district of Chhattisgarh, police said on Wednesday.

The first accident occurred on Tuesday night, while the second took place on Wednesday morning, they said.

Three workers were killed after a coal-laden trailer truck lost control and overturned on their motorcycle in the Pali police station area at around 9 am on Wednesday, a police official here said.

The truck was heading to Bilaspur when the driver lost control near Nunera village, which resulted in it overturning in the middle of the road.

The three workers, identified as Brijpal Singh Kanwar (26), Mangal Singh (28), and Om Prakash (24), were passing by on a motorcycle at that time and were crushed by the vehicle, resulting in their deaths.

The accident caused a disruption in traffic on the route for nearly four hours. Authorities used a JCB machine to remove the coal and clear the overturned trailer before restoring traffic, he said.

The police have seized the vehicle and arrested the driver.

In the second incident, Nanki Bai (60) and Manisha Kumari (9) were killed when their motorcycle was hit by an unidentified vehicle on the Rava main road near Jampani hills under the Jatga police outpost area on Tuesday night, he said.

The two were returning home from a family function on a motorcycle driven by a relative when the accident occurred. While the rider escaped unharmed, the two were run over and died on the spot, he said.

The unidentified driver fled the scene, and police have launched a search to locate the vehicle.
