
April 9, Kohima: The by-election to the Koridang Assembly Constituency in Mokokchung district in Nagaland concluded peacefully today.
Official data showed an average voter turnout of 82.21 percent, with 18,400 of 22,382 registered voters casting their ballots.
Voting took place under tight security arrangements at all 30 polling stations, with 17 polling stations registering more than 90 percent turnout.
Mangmetong-2 South Wing saw the highest turnout at 99.08 percent, while Alichen-2 recorded the lowest at 15.30 percent.
Overall, the polling remained peaceful.
The by-election was necessitated following the death of MLA Imkong Imchen in November last year.
Six candidates are contesting the seat, namely Daochier I. Imchen of the BJP, T. Chalukumba Ao of the Congress, I. Abenjang of the NPP, along with three independent candidates Imchatoba Imchen, Major Toshikaba, and Imtiwapang Kichu.
The vote counting is scheduled for May 4.
