A cheetah born in India has given birth to four cubs in the wild at Kuno National Park, Madhya Pradesh. Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav has described this as a historic milestone in the country's cheetah conservation efforts.
In a social media post, Mr. Yadav stated that the female cheetah, Gamini-KGP12, who is approximately 25 months old and part of the second generation born in India, successfully gave birth to four cubs under natural conditions. The Minister highlighted that this is the first recorded birth in the wild since the launch of the Cheetah Project in 2022.
Mr. Yadav noted that this development reflects the growing adaptation of cheetahs to Indian ecological conditions and underscores the success of sustained scientific management and conservation efforts. He said that this achievement aligns with the core objectives of the program, ensuring the survival and breeding of cheetahs in the wild. The Minister also praised the dedication of wildlife managers, veterinarians, and field staff involved in the initiative.
