
Latur, March 17 Usha Sambhaji Patil-Talegaonkar, from the BJP, has been elected as the president, while NCP candidate Dayanand Damodar Surwase has become the vice-president of the Latur Zilla Parishad in Maharashtra, an official said on Tuesday.
The election for the top positions took place on Monday in a meeting chaired by Additional District Collector Shilpa Karmarkar, who acted as the presiding officer.
Patil-Talegaonkar and Surwase each received 34 votes, defeating Congress candidates Deepali Bhosale and Nageshwari Kendre, who each received 25 votes, the official said.
The Zilla Parishad elections were held on February 7, and the results resulted in a hung assembly, as no party secured a clear majority in the 59-member body.
The Congress emerged as the single largest party with 23 seats, followed by the BJP with 18 seats and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) with 12 seats.
