Lawngtlai, February 19, 2026: A Fire Awareness Campaign was held today at the Bungtlang ‘S’-I Community Hall, organized by the Lawngtlai District Level Committee on Fire Prevention. Mr. Donny Lalruatsanga, Deputy Commissioner of Lawngtlai and Chairman of the District Level Committee on Fire Prevention, attended the event as the chief guest. The program was chaired by Mr. Gilbert Lalhlimpuia, BDO.

In his address, Mr. Donny Lalruatsanga expressed his gratitude to the participants. He stated that although the Lawngtlai district had recorded one of the highest numbers of forest fire incidents among districts in Mizoram in previous years, efforts are being intensified this year to become one of the best-performing districts in fire prevention. Specific time schedules have already been fixed for burning of jhum fields, gardens, and agricultural lands. He emphasized that strict action must be taken against those who violate the regulations and urged Village Councils (VCs) to diligently carry out their responsibilities.

The chief guest highlighted the severe impact of forest fires, stating that they cause extensive damage to wildlife, water sources, and the environment. He stressed that preventing forest fires is a collective responsibility. Large-scale forest fires also affect climate conditions, degrade soil fertility, pollute air and water sources, and create serious hardships for people.

He further called upon Village Councils, NGOs, and the public to put in their utmost efforts toward fire prevention and assured that more awareness campaigns would be organized in the future.

During the program, Mr. Albert Lalrinzuala, Sr. ACF, LADC, delivered an awareness session using a PowerPoint presentation on fire prevention measures. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. K. Lalremkima, President, Lawngtlai District Village Council Association (Western Block).
