Lawngtlai District Launches 3-Year Drug-Free Campaign

Lawngtlai District Launches 3-Year Drug-Free Campaign.webp

Aizawl, April 10 The Lawngtlai district administration in Mizoram launched a three-year drug-free campaign under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ on Friday.

The campaign was formally launched by C Lalsawmzuala, a chief executive member of the Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC), during a ceremony held in Lawngtlai.

It covers 178 villages in the southern district, which shares its border with Myanmar.

"As Lawngtlai is located along the international border, it is highly vulnerable to drug trafficking, making it essential to intensify efforts in combating drug abuse," Lalsawmzuala said.

He said achieving a drug-free status will require unified efforts by the government and other stakeholders, including village councils, NGOs, and churches.

Lawngtlai Deputy Commissioner Donny Lalruatsanga pointed out that various committees have been formed under this program, and funds secured from the Centre to support anti-drug initiatives.

Six Mizoram districts, including Lawngtlai and Champhai, share a 510-km border with Myanmar's Chin state.
