Thiruvananthapuram, April 5 CPI(M) state secretary M V Govindan on Sunday asserted that the BJP-led NDA would not win a single seat in Kerala in the upcoming Assembly elections, and alleged that any victory for the saffron party would come only with the support of the Congress.
Addressing a press conference here, he said that even pre-poll surveys indicate prospects for the BJP in only three to four constituencies, most of them in the Thiruvananthapuram district.
“Among them, three constituencies are in the Thiruvananthapuram district itself. They are not going to win any of these segments. And if they do, it will only be with Congress's support,” Govindan said.
He also claimed that everyone wants the saffron party to be kept out of power in Kerala.
Highlighting the Left Democratic Front’s campaign, Govindan said the LDF is contesting the elections with confidence, riding on the development initiatives implemented by the government over the past 10 years.
“The LDF’s election campaign is progressing with great enthusiasm. We are facing the polls with the strength of the development carried out over the last decade, and the LDF will register a resounding victory in Kerala,” he said.
The CPI(M) leader also accused the Congress of allegedly collecting funds in the name of victims of the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslide disaster and "misusing" them.
A major landslide struck both regions on July 30, 2024, nearly destroying the areas, claiming more than 200 lives and displacing hundreds in Wayanad.
He alleged that Congress has failed to provide clear answers regarding fund collection and expenditure, claiming that the people would assess the opposition’s handling of the issue and take an appropriate stand in the polls.
Kerala will have assembly polls on April 9 for 140 seats.
