Thane, March 18 A seven-year-old boy has died after coming into contact with a live power pole in Thane district, Maharashtra, police said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning in the Jijai Nagar locality of Gograswadi, in the Dombivli area.

A power pole is a structure used to distribute electricity from a main source to various circuits, such as street lights, residential areas, or industrial sites.

The boy was playing with a ball in an open space behind his house.

The ball apparently rolled near a "red box" power pole belonging to the state utility, Mahavitaran. While trying to retrieve the ball, the boy touched the pole, received a high-voltage shock, and collapsed, according to the Tilaknagar police.

Residents rushed the boy to a nearby private hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem at a municipal-run hospital, the police said.

"Based on the statement of the victim's father, an accidental death report has been registered. The family has not raised any suspicion of foul play," an official from the Tilaknagar police station said.

The police were investigating the circumstances of the incident.
