
Ahmedabad, April 9 The Bharatiya Janata Party announced candidates for elections to the district panchayats, taluka panchayats, and municipalities of Vav-Tharad and Aravalli, as well as the Surendranagar Municipal Corporation in Gujarat, on Thursday.
Elections to local self-government bodies will be held on April 26 for nearly 10,000 seats, with vote counting scheduled for April 28. Over 4.18 crore voters will be eligible to cast their votes in the polls, which will cover 34 district panchayats, 260 taluka panchayats, and 84 municipalities, in addition to 15 municipal corporations.
The Aam Aadmi Party has announced candidates for some municipalities, municipal corporations, taluka panchayats, and district panchayats, while the Gujarat Congress did so for several seats on Sunday.
Among the cities where elections will be held are Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, and Jamnagar. Nine corporations are new, having been formed last year.
Earlier in the day, former Indian Police Service officer M L Ninama and ex-AAP leader Raju Karpada joined the ruling BJP ahead of the upcoming local body elections in the state.
