Beed, March 24 Two people, including an elderly resident, from a village in Beed district, Maharashtra, died several days after they were critically injured in a road accident, police said on Tuesday.

The accident occurred on Saturday morning when the two – Shriram Mate (31) and Purushottam Mate (61) – were travelling to Pachegaon in Georai taluka on a motorcycle, they said.

Both were residents of Kopra in Georai, and they died on Monday while receiving treatment at different hospitals.

The accident occurred in the Pachegaon Tanda area around 7:30 am on Saturday, after which Shriram was admitted to a private hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, while the other injured was hospitalised in Beed. However, both succumbed to their injuries on Monday within a few hours, the police said.

Shriram's grieving family members decided to donate his eyes.

"Although our Shriram has passed away, he will continue to see the world through his eyes," his relative said.
