Kochi, March 29 A 28-year-old man died after the car he was in fell into a canal at Parackal Kadavu here on Sunday, officials said.
The deceased, identified as Anoop, was from Thottakkad.
According to Fire and Rescue Services officials, two other occupants of the car were rescued by locals.
The incident occurred around 4 pm when the car lost control while entering the compound of a toddy shop and plunged into the canal, officials said.
While bystanders managed to rescue the two others, the car with Anoop inside sank completely in the water.
A scuba diving team from the Kottayam Fire and Rescue Station later carried out an underwater operation and retrieved Anoop from the submerged vehicle.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.
