Beed, March 14 A joint team of the police and revenue department seized 29 LPG cylinders in the Beed district of Maharashtra in the early hours of Saturday, an official said.
The raid was carried out around 1:30 am in the Shivnerinagar area on the Imampur road, he added.
"Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Pethbeed police station and the revenue department conducted a raid. The team seized 29 LPG cylinders that were being illegally stored for black market sales. The total value of the seizure is Rs 73,000. One person, Ajay Mohanrao Ghodke, had stored the cylinders at his residence without a valid license," he said.
A case has been registered at the Pethbeed police station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Essential Commodities Act, the official said.
Action is being taken across Maharashtra amid rumors of a shortage of LPG due to the crisis in West Asia.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said in Nagpur on Saturday that there is no shortage of domestic LPG, petrol, and diesel, and accused the Congress of deliberately creating panic with false claims of supply disruptions.
